Client & Patient Services
When it comes to veterinary care, you want only the best for your pet. Kent Farms Animal Hospital in Alabaster is committed to providing your pet with cutting-edge veterinary services in a caring, compassionate environment.
MICROCHIP PET IDENTIFICATION
Every year millions of pets go missing and many animals never make it back to their homes. You can help keep your pet safe with microchip. A microchip is a tiny electronic device, about the size of a grain of rice, that is implanted beneath your pet's skin between the shoulder blades. Implanting this permanent pet identification is as easy and painless as a vaccination.
MICROCHIP PET IDENTIFICATION
The implanted microchip registers your pet with a unique identification number, which is filed in a database with your contact information. The contact information can be updated any time, and it is important to remember to do so whenever your information changes. If your pet is lost, the microchip can be scanned by animal control officers, at shelters and at veterinary hospitals in the U.S. and in many foreign countries.
Kent Farms Animal Hospital offers Home Again microchip systems.
A VETERINARY PHARMACY YOU CAN TRUST
Ensuring you have convenient and timely access to competitively priced medications is an important aspect of our veterinary practice. When you fill your pet's prescriptions at our in-house pharmacy, you can feel confident your pet will receive precisely the right medication, at the right dose, and in the right form as quickly as possible.
A VETERINARY PHARMACY YOU CAN TRUST
We will also provide you with detailed instructions on the medication's use, discuss any side effects or interactions and even give your pet the first dose if possible. All the medications we dispense are obtained from safe, reliable sources and stored under the right conditions.
We maintain an extensive inventory of prescription diets, vitamins, shampoos, flea and tick control products, and heartworm preventatives to meet the needs of your pet. Refills are easy, too. Simply text or call us at 205.564.5740 or email our pharmacy at pharmacy@kentfarmsanimalhospital.com
Our online pharmacy ships the same safe and dependable products and even some we do not carry in our hospital pharmacy direct to your home. You have the convenience of home delivery and are still supporting local small business with the assurance of safely stored, reliable products.
END-OF-LIFE

For many pet owners, even thinking about their pet's final days is difficult and emotional. We encourage you to talk with our veterinary team about these issues before they become an urgent matter. Find out about your options, including our crematory services, make key decisions ahead of time, and ask us to add this information to your pet's record.
END-OF-LIFE PLANNING
Taking the time to plan, as challenging as it may be, will lessen the pain and stress for you and your pet.
All of us at Kent Farms Animal Hospital will do our best to help you prepare for these important issues with the compassion and sensitivity they require.
Pet WELLNESS sERVICES
Regular wellness exams are the key to keeping your pet healthy. We recommend all pets undergo an annual nose-to-tail wellness exam, though more frequent exams are encouraged for pediatric and senior pets and pets with special medical needs.
WELLNESS CARE FOR A LIFETIME OF GREAT HEALTH
Regular wellness exams are the key to keeping your pet healthy. As the old saying goes, “an ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure”, and frequent exams can help spot health problems in your pet before they become expensive to treat and potentially life-threatening.
WELLNESS CARE FOR A LIFETIME OF GREAT HEALTH
During an exam, we examine your pet's nose, eyes and ears, check your pet's teeth and oral cavity, listen to your pet's heart and lungs, carefully examine the skin and coat for any unusual lumps or swelling, palpate the abdomen and muscles and perform an orthopedic evaluation of the bones, joints and back. In addition to physical exams, your pet's wellness program includes parasite testing, heartworm and flea control and specialized blood tests for all life stages.
We also take the time to listen to your concerns, answer your questions, and keep you up to date on all the information you need to be the best caregiver to your pet. Good communication between you and your pet's doctor ensures your beloved companion is receiving the optimal care and attention they deserve, so they can live a long, healthy life.
IMMUNIZATIONS / VACCINATIONS
Vaccinations are one of the most important ways you can keep your pet healthy and free from disease. However, not every pet requires the same series or frequency of vaccines. At Kent Farms Animal Hospital, our veterinarians determine a vaccination protocol based on a risk assessment of your pet's lifestyle, susceptibility to disease, geographic location, and the most current recommendations from the American Veterinary Medicine Association.
IMMUNIZATIONS / VACCINATIONS
Using Fear Free endorsed Elanco, ULTRA vaccines and following AVMA guidelines for vaccinations, our goal is to provide appropriate protection, while maintaining optimal comfort and health for your pet.
We recommend our canine patients receive immunizations against distemper, adenovirus, parvovirus and leptospirosis, as well as rabies, canine influenza and Bordetella. After the first series of pediatric immunizations and the first adult immunizations are administered, vaccinations for rabies and DAP are then given every three years. Leptospirosis and canine influenza are given every year and Bordetella is recommended bi-annually for dogs who attend boarding, grooming and daycare facilities or dog parks.
For cats, we recommend immunizations against feline distemper, rhinotracheitis, feline calicivirus and panleukopenia as well as rabies and feline leukemia. After the first series of pediatric immunizations and the first adult immunizations are administered, FVRCP is then recommended every three years, while vaccinations for rabies and feline leukemia are administered annually.
We encourage you to discuss immunization options for your pet with our veterinarians and medical staff.
PUPPY & KITTEN
CARE
The first year of care for your new puppy or kitten is the most important. Like human infants, puppies and kittens require special attention to grow and develop well. At Kent Farms Animal Hospital, your veterinarian will partner with you to create a custom health plan so your new companion receives the care required to get the best start in life.
PUPPY & KITTEN CARE
Your puppy's and kitten's first year of care at Kent Farms Animal Hospital includes:
- Physical Examinations: Your puppy's or kitten's lifetime of wellness starts with the first comprehensive physical exam. Puppies and kittens should have 3-4 exams between the ages of 6-15 weeks. These visits are important because they provide your pet's veterinarian with an opportunity to assess your pet's overall health and to administer vaccines.
- Vaccinations: Due to their developing immune systems, puppies and kittens must receive a series of properly staged vaccines. Because every puppy and kitten is unique, we tailor our vaccination recommendations based on their lifestyle, breed and suggested medical guidelines.
- Diagnostic Testing: Puppies and kittens should be tested for intestinal parasites and kittens tested for Feline Leukemia (FeLV) and Feline Immunodeficiency Virus (FIV).
- Additional Recommendations: Your veterinarian will also discuss and recommend other services, such as spaying, neutering, and microchipping.
We also take plenty of time during these visits to offer health care, nutrition and training advice and discuss any concerns you have. This is your new family member and we're happy to answer all your questions.
Geriatric Care
It may seem like only yesterday that your pet was a playful puppy or frisky kitten, but pets are considered senior citizens around seven or eight years of age. Like you, your pet's medical needs change as he or she grows older, and pets in their senior years begin to go through a gradual reduction of their physical capabilities. However, this process can be slowed and managed through proper veterinary care, thereby offering your beloved pet an extended period of vitality and good health.
Geriatric Care
At Kent Farms Animal Hospital, we have developed a comprehensive senior wellness program for pets entering their golden years. The key to keeping your older pet healthy is preventive care. Regular wellness exams, blood, urine and parasite testing plus other preventive measures can help determine potential health risks before they become chronic and difficult to treat. Our veterinarians and staff work with you to develop a wellness plan that takes into account your pet's unique needs and lifestyle.
There is also an important role for you to play as your pet's primary caregiver. While you cannot control age-related decline, you can influence your pet's activity level, living conditions, access to quality senior veterinary care, and daily nutrition. With help from your veterinarian at Kent Farms Animal Hospital, you can prolong your pet's vitality and well-being even as his or her pace slows a bit.
DIAGNOSTIC SERVICES
Diagnostic imaging and laboratory services are some of the most useful techniques available for diagnosing your pet's problem quickly and efficiently.
RADIOLOGY
X-rays are one of the most useful techniques available for diagnosing your pet's problem quickly and efficiently. By providing a snapshot of your pet's body and organs, x-rays can aid in the diagnosis of orthopedic problems such as fractures and hip dysplasia, as well as arthritic changes in bones and joints. X-rays are also used to view the heart, lungs and abdomen, allowing for the diagnosis of heart disease, bladder stones, tumors and other health problems. Dental x-ray allows us to view dental issues not visible below the gum-line. In many cases dental x-rays are the only way for your veterinarian to know that your pet has a serious dental problem that can be treated, relieving discomfort. We are equipped with the latest in full body and dental digital radiographic technology and our highly skilled technicians are well-trained in using radiographic equipment.
DIAGNOSTIC LABORATORY
When performing wellness examinations or diagnosing an illness, what our veterinarians can't see is as important, if not more important, than what they can. At Kent Farms Animal Hospital, our complete, state-of-the art diagnostic laboratory allows us to measure hundreds of laboratory values, with results often available in a few minutes. This comprehensive laboratory testing provides information about your pet's overall systemic health without the need for invasive, expensive procedures. We also work with several outside laboratories should your pet require specialized testing.
Our in-house diagnostic laboratory allows us to perform blood-chemistry panels, complete blood counts, heartworm and intestinal disease testing, urinalysis, urine cultures, cytology and more. Without timely access to these test results, it would be difficult to make an accurate diagnosis or assessment of your pet's health.
Surgical Care
Surgical services, including spay and neuter, intestinal, growth removal and histopathology, eye surgery, declawing and tail docking.
